PERSONAE

The psychological definition of Persona comes from Carl Jung’s theory of identity as a mask with which we all create as a presentation of self to the world.  With one respect it exposes our personality, but on the other hand also creates a concealment of the true self.  This show explores the idea of multiple identities, how they can be conveyed and concealed, through our bodies, environment and also exhibited through our possessions and consumptions.  Hall’s paintings create narratives of ruptured identity, vanity, and consumerism through a play of layered images and pattern.   Abstract and surrealist influence contributes to the deconstruction and re-examination of social and personal constructs.  She often chooses to work with paper due to its fragility and impermanence in exploration of the parallels its innate characteristics have with those of identity.
